Questions worth asking each employer

How has the bonus paid out over the last three years, and who decides it? Can the truck be used for personal trips and on weekends, and who pays for fuel then? When does per diem apply, and what does it take to be paid? On what date do medical coverage and the retirement match start?

How the comparison is built

Two totals for each offer
The guaranteed annual value counts base pay, any guaranteed bonus, the premiums the employer pays, the retirement match and the allowances paid every year. The potential annual value adds a target bonus that depends on results.
Overtime on its own line
For hourly pay, the overtime you expect is figured at 1.5 times the rate for the hours a week you enter, 52 weeks a year. It sits on a separate line because it depends on hours worked, and it joins the totals only when the offer guarantees it.
The truck as written
A truck allowance counts in dollars. A company truck or fuel card is listed as provided and counts in dollars only when you enter a value for it, so the comparison shows where the two offers use different terms.
Per diem, one-time payments and time off
Per diem is listed as a daily rate. A sign-on bonus or relocation is listed apart from the yearly totals. Paid time off, holidays and sick days are shown in days.
Commute in hours
The drive is shown as miles and hours a week in the car, with no dollar figure attached.
Your figures stay with you
Everything is calculated in this browser tab. None of your figures or names leave this page, nothing you enter is stored, and the page clears when the tab closes. The comparison is not tax or legal advice.
